I wanted quotes for transfer of property. The Law Superstore gave me quotes from four companies, all considerably cheaper than I had received from local high street solicitors. All companies contacted me (some by phone, some via email, to discuss my requirements and clarify what they would do). I expect my family will agree on one of the firms.

Lasting Power of Attorney is when you grant someone else the ability to make decisions on your behalf, should it become necessary. This could be in case of an accident – if you were unconscious or unable to make a decision about your care, your ‘attorney’ would be able to advocate for what you would want.
Alternatively, if you became unwell with a disease like dementia, it would allow a trusted loved one to have access to your accounts and files (for a limited time) to ensure your wellbeing.
Power of Attorney is there to protect you should you become incapacitated or no longer judged to be ‘of mental capacity’. We often think of older people requiring power of attorney, but anyone could be hurt in an accident, or fall ill suddenly.
Having someone appointed who knows what you want regarding your care in hospital, your living situation or even to ensure payments are sorted so you don’t get into debt whilst unwell, is something that can put your mind at ease.
Most people choose to arrange power of attorney for themselves, based on their individual needs and considerations. This is simple to do and you can compare quotes for up to four legal experts to help you make your power of attorney.
It's possible to arrange power of attorney as a couple. You'll still have individual documents, but your paperwork will ensure you can act as attorney for your partner, and vice versa. Whether you're married or not, you still need power of attorney.
You can easily find a legal expert on The Law Superstore to help you make your Lasting Power of Attorney, whether that’s for health, finances or both. If you believe your needs to be quite simple, you can do your Power of Attorney yourself by downloading the forms from the gov.uk website. Otherwise, a solicitor can support you in choosing attorneys, outlining any instructions or wishes and formalising the Lasting Power of Attorney by sending it to the Office of the Public Guardian.
: If you are registering your LPA forms yourself without legal advice, it costs £82 to submit each form. So if you do both a financial Power of Attorney and a health and welfare Power of Attorney, it will cost £164 to register.
However, if your situation is a little more complex, or you’d like the confidence of having a legal expert support you, the costs will be more. There are often fixed rate fees, especially if you are making your LPA with a spouse.
If you’re concerned that Power of Attorney was set up when the person was not of sound mind, or that the attorney is not acting in the best interests of the person who set it up, you can speak to a lawyer. It is quite difficult to override Power of Attorney unless it’s clear the attorney is not acting in the way expected of them.
Usually even if you want to make small changes, you will have to cancel your old Power of Attorney and register a new one. This is especially true if you want to add new attorneys or remove someone as an attorney.
Once your Power of Attorney is submitted to the Office of the Public Guardian, it is official. Working with a solicitor may allow you to make small amendments, but usually you will be encouraged to replace your Power of Attorney.
You will choose your attorneys who can act on your behalf, and you’ll also outline how you’d like them to make decisions for you (do they always need to agree if there are a group, or can one person take control?). You can also assign back up attorneys and people to be informed of the situation. You can give instructions for how you would like them to approach any decisions for you, and include your wishes.
When filling out a healthcare LPA you will need to put your preferences about things like life-sustaining treatment and how much authority your attorneys have to make those decisions for you..
